Bronx Alumni Chapter History


In the beginning…

The Bronx Alumni chapter was chartered on February 20, 2009 by Grand Polemarch Dwayne Murray.

On February 20, 2009, Brother Terrell Hughes was installed as the first polemarch of the Bronx Alumni Chapter (2009-2011).

Brother Hughes is a charter member of the Bronx Alumni Chapter. He served as the inaugural Polemarch for the first two years of the chapters existence. During his tenure, the charter line consisting of Brothers Michael Sherman, Shevar Whittaker, Naeem Price, Rudy Riddock and James Romulus were inducted in Spring 2010.

On June 11, 2011, Brother Jason McCalla was installed as the second polemarch of the Bronx Alumni Chapter (2011-2014).

Brother McCalla is a charter member of the Bronx Alumni Chapter. During his tenure, he established the Bronx Achievement Foundation as a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit, which host the annual Golf Scholarship Outing facilitated by Brother Hector Rodriguez and Brother Frank Morales to assist underprivileged youth, the annual Paintball Reclamation Outing organized by Brother Ashawn Rivera and our annual Toy Drive for Children which services hundreds of kids and families throughout the underprivileged Bronx. His leadership qualities and his ability to delegate authority allowed him to steer the helm of the ship in the right direction. He is also credited with entering Bronx Alumni into the history annals of Kappa Alpha Psi with the initiation of neuroscientist, Dr. Rastafa Geddes at the 2011 Centennial Anniversary in Indiana. His tenure also included the initiation of Augustine Rodriguez in Spring 2013. Brother McCalla continues to serve as the chairman of the Bronx Achievement Foundation.

On June 14, 2014, Brother Dr. Joseph Cordero was installed as the third polemarch of the Bronx Alumni Chapter (2014-2018).

Brother Cordero’s administration witnessed the establishment of an Adopt-a-Highway site, provided food drops feeding Bronx residents in the thousands, hosted the Northeastern Polemarch’s Roundtable, NYC Metro Area Founders Day Luncheon and 86th Northeastern Province Council. Under Brother Cordero’s leadership, Brothers Askia Abdul-Qadir and James Davie Jr. were initiated in Fall 2015. Brothers Joshua Burrell, Alfred Taylor and Kufre M’Batt were inducted in Fall 2016. Brothers Joshua Ayala, Jabari Richards and Lekan Orimogunje, as well as, Iota Rho chapter undergraduate Esau Princeton Ball were initiated Fall 2017. During his tenure the Bronx Alumni Chapter was awarded back to back to back Northeastern Province Alumni Chapter Achievement Awards in 2016, 2017, 2018. Brother Cordero holds the distinction as the Northeastern Province, 2018 Alumni Brother of the Year, as well as, the first Bronx Alumni Chapter, 2022 James M. Kidd Awardee.

On June 9, 2018, Brother Gregory Delts was installed as the fourth Polemarch of Bronx Alumni Chapter (2018-2019).

Brother Delts holds the distinction of the being the first polemarch to have been born and raised in the Bronx, as well as, an initiate of the only Bronx undergraduate chapter, the Iota Rho chapter at Fordham University. He provided direct services to the Bronx community and served within it’s political landscape for many years. Brother Delts utilized his influence within the Bronx to establish relationships with various community organizations and politicians. Brother Delts served as the Polemarch during the Bronx Alumni Chapter’s 10th year anniversary. The event was attended by Grand Polemarch Thomas Battles and Northeastern Province Polemarch Craig Chisholm. Brothers Wayne Crooks, Nosagie Ekhator, Deron Bennett, and Darian Livingston were inducted Spring 2019. Brother Delts holds the distinction as the chapter’s only two-time awardee of both the Bronx Alumni Brother of the Year award (2015, 2106), as well as, the Northeastern Province Samuel C. Hamilton Northeastern Province Alumni Award (2017, 2018).

On June 8, 2019, Brother William Williams was installed as the fifth Polemarch of Bronx Alumni Chapter (2019-2021).

Brother Williams is a charter member of the Bronx Alumni Chapter. Brother Williams ushered the chapter during the two year Covid pandemic, ensuring thousands of the neediest residents throughout New York City received food and supplies. During his tenure the Bronx Alumni Chapter was awarded its’ fourth 2021 Alumni Achievement Award and 2021 Reclamation Award for Most Brothers Reclaimed, as well as, assisting with the national kick off of the Room to Read national program on the nationally syndicated Today Show. Brother Williams holds the distinction of being the only NYC metro polemarch to have served this position in two separate chapters (Bronx Alumni/New York Alumni). Brother Williams is a New York Alumni Chapter, 2007 Northeastern Province James M. Kidd Awardee.

On June 12, 2021, Brother Askia Abdul-Qadir was installed as the sixth polemarch of Bronx Alumni Chapter (2021-2023).

Brother Abdul-Qadir is the first Polemarch of Bronx Alumni Chapter that was an initiate of the chapter. During his tenure the chapter was given the opportunity to provide a verbal history of the chapter to remain with the Bronx Historical Society. Brother Abdul-Qair was responsible for the largest initiation classes. Brothers Ibrahim Gueye, Wayne Green, Brandon Williams, Sheldon Baizar and Emmanual Lundi were inducted Spring 2022. Brothers Kenneth Taylor, David Wilcox, Jeffrey Antonetti, Austin Ocasio and Pierre Clement were inducted Spring 2023. Brother Abdul-Qadir is the 2017 Bronx Alumni Brother of the Year awardee.

On June 10, 2023, Brother Glenn Moises was installed as the seventh polemarch of Bronx Alumni Chapter (2023-present).

Brother Moises is the current polemarch of the Bronx Alumni Chapter. During the summer of 2023 Brother Moises provided all NYC Metro National Pan-Hellenic Council members with the a community service event titled a “Day of Service”, feeding hundreds in the South Bronx during the NYC NPHC Anniversary. Additionally under his administration, the Mu Kappa undergraduate chapter at Binghamton University was placed under the advisory of the Bronx Alumni Chapter, the chapter reestablished it’s Kappa League program and hosted the 2024 Kappa League Leadership Conference at SUNY Maritime College with over 580 participants. Bronx Borough President Vanessa Gibson proclaimed March 2, Kappa League Day in the Bronx. Brother Moises proudly serves as the Polemarch during the Bronx Alumni Chapter’s 15th year anniversary. In his first year as Polemarch, Bronx Alumni was awarded the 2024 Northeastern Province Alumni Chapter Achievement Award and Reclamation Chapter of the Year. Brother Moises is the 2019 Bronx Alumni Brother of the Year awardee.

And the work continues as we celebrate our 15th year anniversary...

The work of Bronx Alumni Chapter and its impact on the Bronx community has been immeasurable. Over the past decade the chapter has received several citations from the New York State Assembly, The New York City Public Advocate, The Bronx Borough President, The New York State Senate and various community organizations. Our work has been documented by local print and television media. The Brothers of the Bronx Alumni Chapter continues to serve our community through leadership, service and brotherhood.
